If you were looking foward to going down the biggest water slide to be hosted in Africa to date at the upcoming Slide The City events then best you take a rain check (sorry) because they have been postponed until further notice. Organisers have announced that ‘Slide the City events will no longer take place this year in light of one of South Africa’s driest seasons in recent years.’ This despite efforts to explain that the water used at the events will be potable and either come from boreholes or springs and will be re-used and recycled.
This from organisers:
“Huisgenoot, YOU and Drum announces Slide the City events will no longer take place this year in light of one of South Africa’s driest seasons in recent years.
The severity of the drought that has hit South Africa has led the organisers of Slide the City to postpone the event.
“Although every effort was made to ensure there would be no water wastage we take water conservation extremely seriously. We are all well aware of the severity of the drought and we wouldn’t want anyone to think otherwise,” says Minette Ferreira, general manager of Huisgenoot, YOU and Drum.
The events, scheduled for various cities in South Africa, would have drawn on non-drinkable water that would then have been recycled after use and distributed where most needed in the host cities.”
